This roll is much stronger and tougher than Iron roll. These rolls have great strength, good thermal properties with uniform hardness from depth to the surface. It permits heavier draughts to be used especially where deep grooves are required. Breakage due to shock loading is much less likely to occur. This grade of roll is mainly composed of fine pearlitic matrix with few cementites in the structure consisting of well broken up and dispersed carbides in the matrix resulting required hardness with wear resistance imparted by alloys and multiple stages of heat treatment process.
